Learn how to pay off private student loans faster with these tips. Almost a decade ago, I was trying to buy a house and it was tough because of my student loans. I was already paying on them but I was doing the bare minimum. Meaning I was making the minimum payment. But I realized that I needed to start doing more once I got the pre-approval amount. It was very low for the area for that I was looking to buy in which is really put things into perspective. 

Despite that, I kept going on my journey to look at houses. But when my offers kept getting denied, I knew I had to do something. So my lender and realtor at the time encouraged me to take a break from home searching and pay off some of my loans. But I decided that I wanted to go from broke to financially free. I decided to pay off all of my student loans! I made a plan to get it all done in two years, but I did it in 18 months.
